The Olympic Flag Raising Ceremony

We are delighted to have been chosen by The South Lakeland District Council to participate in the London 2012 handover celebrations. Bank Holiday Sunday August 24th is the day on which the Beijing Olympic Games draw to a close and the Olympic flag is handed over to London and the United Kingdom. Our ceremony will be one of several hundred taking place in towns and cities across the UK to mark the occasion by raising a unique London 2012 flag.

The flag will arrive in the Grand Arena at 11.15 am - how it arrives will depend upon the weather. The Flag Raising moment will be at 2.30pm to coincide with the handover of the Olympic Flag to the Mayor of London in Beijing. You will be able to watch the ceremony ‘live' on the big screen in the Grand Arena.

To support and enhance the special importance of today, three local clubs have been asked to participate in our Sports. They are; The Ambleside Boxing Club, The Kendal Judo Club and the Kendal Fencing Club. They will each be giving a forty five minute display in the marquee, number 51 on the plan.
